Monday 28th May

The distribution table was groaning under the weight of donated items this month! A big thank you to Sharon, Jennifer and the many ladies who faithfully sort and distribute these donations.

Some very special donated items included 19 'premmie' beanies, 3 children’s beanies and 7 bears, all knitted by an elderly resident at St Vincent’s Aged Care in Maroochydore.

These delightful little baby toys were knitted and donated by Arleen from the IRT Retirement Village at Meridan Plains.

When Karen dropped off some items at the Kabara Hostel in Cooroy she was asked if she could make some wheel chair bags for the residents. She has adapted the pattern to make these bags which are fully lined and include a pocket. Karen even managed to incorporate a cushion panel she found on the ‘freebie’ table!

Claire, Bonnie and Leonie have been keeping themselves busy making these nifty ‘touchy feely’ books. They are very creative when it comes to designing the pages. These books are to be donated to various aged-care centres in Caloundra.

A selection of adorable, hand-embroidered children’s bags were amongst the donations this month. They included a floral backing and colourful lining.

One other ingenious item presented was this ‘touchy feely’ placemat. Again these are donated to various aged-care facilities around the Sunshine Coast.

During ‘Show and Tell’ Susan welcomed Sharon, Tam and Rose from the Peregian Golf Club. They presented a very generous cheque to Sunshine Linus acknowledging the amazing work that is done by the many members. This money will go towards purchasing wadding for the many quilts that are made and donated. Thank you Peregian golf ladies!

Dorothy has been keeping busy making children’s quilts. She donated 3 delightful quilts that any child would adore.

Orrawin showed a beautiful Japanese themed man’s quilt in which she had incorporated 6 handkerchiefs. On the back she continued the Japanese theme.

In this quilt Orrawin ingeniously combined 2 smaller quilts to make a larger one.

Lyn presented a very scrappy quilt using fabric she discovered in a shoe box on the ‘freebie’ table. The back was just as bright and colourful as the front.

Lyn has also been busy making these very versatile overnight bags.

Anne showed this striking half-square triangle quilt she had made using fabric collected from the ‘freebie’ table.

Val has been busy crocheting squares of all sizes together to make this ‘quirky’ rug. The squares were crocheted by Dawn.

Dee has kept her quilting machine working over-time again this month quilting 13 quilts made by other ladies. They included this beautifully embroidered quilt made by Lorraine.

More quilts quilted by Dee.

A couple of final matters……..recipients of the ‘Gifts of Gratitude’ this month were Kaye and Pam. Congratulations ladies!

…..and Thelma wishes to extend her thanks to the many ladies who help out in the kitchen each month. Thank you too Thelma!
