31st July 2017 Gathering

An air of excitement was abroad today as the group makes it final plans for the third Quilt Show and Open Day on Saturday 12th August. Dozens of quilts have been saved from distribution for this day and they will completely cover all the pews of the Nambour Uniting Church.
Subsequent to Open Day, these will all be distributed to needy members of our community.

The Show is open from 9am to 3pm.

As well as over 100 charity quilts, there will be some members' quilts on display, demonstrations of some of Linus' key activities and several local vendors will offer goods for sale.  A gift stall could start your Christmas shopping and you can watch a presentation of some of our activities while you enjoy tea or coffee and a scone, all for a $7 entry fee.

The two stunning quilts below form the first and second prizes of our raffle and the two overnight bags displayed by President Kaye are also raffle prizes.

Earlier in the month, a group of around 21 members gathered to sort and price goods for the stall whilst others cut and stitched Santa Sacks for 2017.

Sunshine Linus was visited today by representatives of St Vincent de Paul who talked of their work on the Coast and across Queensland, by some members of Bribie Island and of Caboolture Quilters, one guest from interstate and a few new members.

Our Bribie friends brought several quilts including these below.

and here are a sample of Caboolture's donations.

Regular Linus contributors include Orrawin whose quilt backs are always as interesting as her quilt fronts, as seen with this peacock quilt.

Anne showed a magnificent alphabet quilt
and some machine embroidered Disney characters,
while Glorianne produced a cheery animal number, quilted as you go because of the sheer size of the motifs,
and a disappearing nine patch.

Lyn P had pieced squares from the freebie table, also using quilt-as -you-go.
Linus has a large supply of donated chenille scraps in bright colours. Lyn has made a baby's floor mat  using some of these pieces shown below
Contact President Kaye if you would like to use some of this chenille.

We look forward to sharing the highlights of our Open Day with you next month and invite members and friends to join us on 12 August.

No, we are not having a month off after the success of our Open Day

Next meeting will be on Monday 28 August from 9.30am.
