The Touchy Feely Tragic

One day I went to a large girls meeting

No …. That’s not to do with their seating

No…. there were so many there

Showing off their work so fair

There was crochet and some knitting

I thought mine would be quite fitting

Oh …. I could learn to crochet too

Time to start on something new

Went to classes all agog

Soon had the teacher in a fog

She tried to teach me chains and doubles, then to add to all her troubles

I slipped my drop stitch and so she said, I think it’s best you go

Aw…. back to Linus just to see if there was something there for me

Patchwork …. they do it with ease, I thought this’ll be a breeze

They said we’ve got a job or for you, cut these 6-inch squares in two

Hope you have a ¼ inch foot asked Kaye, no I take size 9 to my dismay

I measured once and cut them twice and though they were very nice

They said I wasn’t able, and they showed me to the touchy feely table

I can tell you I’m now in heaven, cut one side nine and the other seven

No-one cares if seams ‘bout face – just cover with a bit of lace

Add a zipper and Velcro magic ✨

That’s how I became a Touchy Feely Tragic.

It has been said that everyone has a good story in them. Please let me know if you'd like to share your Sunshine Linus story in 2025.

2024 September

September is the start of spring and as the weather warms up thoughts turn to planning our end of year projects. At this months meeting, Jenny D provided insight into which specific items are currently in high demand. Community requests are emailed out every month in the 'Sunshine Linus Wish List'.

THE SENSORY TABLE

Every day we learn something new and today I learnt about sensory ‘Conversation Starter’ mats. Conversation starter mats are tactile mats made using an interesting tea towel as backing. The information on the tea towel provides prompts to encourage conversation between patients’, carers and visitors.

RAFFLE:

A new raffle began this month with prizes including a big bag with internal and external pockets and the softest crocheted rug ever.

This raffle will be drawn at the next meeting, so there is still time to buy a ticket.

This month the sales table was filled with treats and great ideas for Christmas gifts. Items included beautiful sunhats, eyeglass holders, coffee cup holders, a wine bottle holder, as well as delicious biscuits, lemon curd and strawberries. Elaine also made some amazing mats and cup covers. Thank you to all who contribute to make the sales table an interesting stop each month.

If you look closely there were even some necklaces available. Lots of items for a very organised and  glamourous Christmas.

SHOW and TELL

Janet from Toowoomba used quality wool to create a log cabin rug.

Brightly coloured log cabin designed rug.
Thank you Janet for donating this double sided quilt.

Our president Sharon showed us two quilts. The first quilt was a large floor quilt for children experiencing trauma to sit on. The quilt was made in response to requests on the Sunshine Linus wish list.

Sharon also brought in a UFO inspired way back in 2005 when her husband gave her a 12mth quilting subscription. Judy B will add the final touch to complete Sharon's second quilt.

A large and very intricate quilt.

Claire has created two versatile resources for the Gympie Special School. A classroom teacher sent through a very specific request for a 60cm x 60cm prop to illustrate popular children's songs.
