October News

๐ŸŒž Sunshine Linus October Meeting ☀️

It was a hot and steamy meeting this month, with temperatures outside sitting in the high 30s! Fortunately, a gentle breeze drifted through the hall, and that, along with plenty of laughter and creativity, kept everyone smiling. ๐Ÿงต๐Ÿ’›

At our second-last meeting of the year, our wonderful members were thanked for all their help, kindness, and donations throughout the year. ๐Ÿ™ Your support keeps Sunshine Linus running beautifully!

Our Sales Table was once again filled with handcrafted items, delicious food, lovely plants, and a few surprises ๐Ÿฐ๐ŸŒฟ — thank you to everyone who contributes each month. Next month, the Sales Table will be the perfect spot for Christmas shopping. ๐ŸŽ ๐ŸŽ

And, as always, our morning tea spread was amazing,
thanks to Bonnie, Leonie, and our many generous bakers. ☕๐Ÿช๐Ÿ’

The Freebie Table was winding down, cutting back in readiness for the end of the year. ๐ŸŽ

There were also some cute toys for newborn babies — perfect additions to the baby packs ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿผ

๐Ÿงถ Show & Tell ✂️

This month’s quilts showed just how good teamwork can be. ๐Ÿ’• Rosalie brought along some gorgeous quilt tops from the retreat. Robyn kindly offered to bind them because binding isn’t Rosalie's favourite thing to do! What do they say?  Teamwork makes the dream work. ๐Ÿ’–๐ŸŒป

News from the Retreat

Four Days of Fun, Friendship and Crafting!

Sunshine Linus crafters packed up their sewing machines, projects, and plenty of good humour and headed off to the House of Happiness on beautiful Bribie Island for our Annual Retreat. The retreat gave everyone precious time to finish those “almost done” projects, learn new techniques from one another, and simply enjoy being together. It was the perfect mix of productivity, learning, and laughter.

Workshop
A big thank you to Barbara, who ran a workshop on how to make a Disappearing 9 Patch quilt – with a twist! The clever pattern had everyone intrigued and inspired to give it a go.

Rosalie enjoyed adding a unique touch to the pattern
Colours blending beautifully

Gail making a Christmas runner.

Welcome to the Pacific Paradise Crafters
We were joined by our friends from Pacific Paradise craft group, who spent time creating items for an upcoming Christmas Market stall and other sewing projects.
Christmas Coasters
Lynda made a pinwheel on the point quilt.

Handmade Christmas towels.

Deb's covers for sewing machines and iPads.
Time for sharing ideas.
Community Projects
Of course, there was also a big focus on our ongoing community projects. Especially making more items which are always in high demand from local entities. Breast drainage bags were stitched up and Jenny D. and Val L. kept their crochet hooks busy, making woollen balls and hearts.

What do you do when you are missing some of the instructions?
Sharon started a Block of the Month quilt, only to discover some of the instructions were missing. Never fear — a quick email to Sunshine Linus members saved the day! Cynthia from Caloundra came to the rescue, not only solving the mystery but generously donating lots of Marti Mitchell patterns for everyone to enjoy.

Making Memories
Glorianne and Carole added a beautiful finishing touch by completing a stunning quilt top made from Crinoline embroideries created by eight members of their sewing group. Each person embroidered her own elegant figure, beginning with just a fabric stencil. The eight embroidered designs came together to form the heart of the quilt, evoking memories of days gone by.

Carole found the material blocks, and with Glorianne’s help, added borders and carefully pieced everything together. The result is something truly special — a heartfelt quilt that reflects hours of skill, creativity, and teamwork.

We can’t wait to see the finished piece once it’s been quilted!
Unfortunately, the photos do not do this quilt justice.
These ladies bought back memories.

Glorianne started this magnificent quilt at the 2024 retreat. It has taken over 12months to complete.
A stunning blue flower quilt.

Here’s to another wonderful Sunshine Linus retreat and to the threads of friendship that keep us all connected. ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ’›
