Monday 28th June

It has been a very busy month for Sunshine Linus with a static display needing to be organised for the Nambour Show (a big thank you to Kaye, Marion and Sharon for coordinating this). Three guest visitors also attended Monday's meeting.

The display was well received.

Our first visitor was Sergeant Sandy Atkinson from the Sunshine Coast Crime Prevention Unit at Maroochydore. Sandy was amazed at the range and quality of the items she saw on the distribution tables. Sunshine Linus donate many items to a number of police stations on the Sunshine Coast. Of course the activity bags for children caught up in domestic violence situations are a regular donation.

Kaye shows Sandy some of the items.

Our second set of visitors were Lewis and Pam Minary from the Suncoast Social Dancers. Pam is the Vice President and Lewis the Treasurer. Pam saw the Sunshine Linus article in the May 6th issue of the My Weekly Preview magazine and brought it to the attention of the dancing group because they are always looking for local volunteer groups and charities to support. The Suncoast Social Dancers very generously donated $1000 to Sunshine Linus!

Pam and Lewis view some of the 'touchy feely' items.

Once again the sales table was overflowing with goods for sale. Thank you to everyone who has donated items and to Elaine for her efforts setting the table up as it has become a good source of income for Sunshine Linus.

Elaine put her Brother sewing machine to good use embroidering these lovely coasters and hand towels for the sales table.

Thelma models a mask she purchased!

The raffle quilt for the next two months was donated by Judie B. Judie calls it her 'Stitch Library quilt' and you can see why when you take a closer look at the quilting! Remember to purchase your tickets at the next meeting if you haven't already done so!

And now for some 'Show and Tell'.......

Jan has been collecting Kanyini bears from the knitters amongst Sunshine Linus members and friends, enough to fill her bed! They are to be delivered to Buderim Private hospital.

Bev S knitted this beautiful, double breasted toddler's jacket and beanie.

Gabrielle delivered an assortment of items including a colorful knitted rug that had 'touchy feely' threads on the back.

The 'Touchy Feely' team have been hard at work again creating a range of creative and interesting items.

Lea made these balls and blockenspeils.

Beany made a selection of doodads.

Rosemary made these gorgeous twiddle muffs.

The insides were just as interesting.

More delightful 'touchy feely' cubes.

The 'Sewing Team' have been just as productive. Lisa delivered a number of hospital gowns, some of which were made during the last Activity Day.

Sue T shows one of the night shirts she had made.

Carole made a bag full of 'cheery' playing card holders. They were also started during the last Activity Day. The card holders are very popular amongst the residents in aged care facilities.

Of course there are always some adorable soft toys donated each month.

Kay F made a very cute Mr Hoot Hoot

These cuties are destined for the 4FW ward at Nambour Hospital. Jenny D knitted and crocheted the cats and dogs and Claire created the weighted frog and rabbit.

Claire was tasked with the job of creating a 'finger guard' for a student at Currimundi Special School. After hunting around for ideas and trialing her own design, she came up with this snazzy 'finger guard'!

The 'Quilters' are also always making beautiful quilts for Sunshine Linus to donate. Sharon assembled and quilted a set of gorgeous blocks to make this spectacular quilt.

The 'Thursday Quilters' donated a very pretty double-sided quilt.

Annie made an intricate 'snowball' quilt using scraps from her stash.

A couple more lovely quilts....

Activity Day: Monday 14 June

A chilly start to our Activity Day warranted an early cup of tea to help 'thaw out' some of the participants before getting started on cutting out and making hospital gowns, tactile mats, card holders and cutting fabric to make Disappearing Nine Patch Quilts.

Marie sewing card holders and assisted by Fay and Carole.

A production team for cutting, sewing and overlocking hospital gowns comprised  Pam, Lisa, Jill, Yvonne, Lynne and Sharon.

Virginia, our newest member who joined on Monday, receiving expert instruction on how to make blockenspeils.

Once again, Marion performed a much appreciated service providing beverages to keep us hydrated and warm throughout the morning.

Monday 31st May

This month's meeting was a busy one as it has been six weeks since the previous distribution meeting. This meant Sunshine Linus members and friends had additional time to make lots of items and it wasn't long before the tables were overflowing with donations.

The new format allowed members to stay for an hour and meant there was extra time to drop off items, look for supplies and catch up with friends.

Rita arrives with a bag of crafted goodies.

Elaine had the 'sales table' looking splendid and there were quite a few bargains to be found.

Of course with the cooler months upon us there were lots of lovely knitted and crocheted rugs to show.

Lesley amongst an overflow of items.

Lorraine has been sewing up a storm with these very pretty little girls' dresses.

Lorraine also found time to make this cute, crocheted child's carry bag.

Joy from Caboolture made these fabulous, mini Tic Tac Toe sets. They even have a pocket inside to store the bottle tops!

Margaret couldn't resist making a soft toy or two or three! Aren't they adorable?

The Sewing team have also kept themselves busy sewing turbans (for cancer patients) and seatbelt protectors and eye masks.

Once again a big thank you from Sunshine Linus to Faye and the Bribie Island ladies for their generous donations.

There were lots of 'oohs' and 'aahs' when Claire showed her latest project: a 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' interactive, book quilt! It even came with a 'Teacher's Guide'. It is destined for the children at Nambour Special School.

During the course of the morning Robyn, Chris and Jennifer made time to sit and finish threading the drawstring bags that were made during Activity Day. And of course this was a great opportunity to have a cuppa and a chat!

Of course there were lot of lovely quilts to show:

Sharon found the center blocks for this fun scrap quilt on the 'freebie table'. She added some side borders to make it larger.

This eye-catching stained glass quilt was a joint effort by Sharon and Kaye.

Jill found the pattern for this clever Irish Chain quilt on Pinterest.

Sandra had fun making this adorable dinosaur quilt! It is sure to delight any child.

Orawin discovered a stack of already made 'half-square-triangles' on the 'freebie table'. Of course her motto with all her scrap quilts is 'There are possibilities'. With Orawin there certainly are!

The back of the quilt

Annie donated two lovely quilts this month. Lots of piecing in both of them!

This stunning hexagon quilt top was made by a friend of Leonie. Leonie did the quilting and binding.

 ...and one more lovely quilt...

The lucky winner of the raffled bag was Denise! Yes again! Two wins in a row Denise, how lucky!

Reminders:
  • The next meeting will be an Activity Day on Monday 14th June. There will be opportunity to make hospital gowns, tactile mats and take part in some fabric-cutting for quilt making.
  • No more beanies or turbans are required at this stage. Please store them for future use.
  • Sunshine Linus will have a static display at the Nambour Show. Remember to check it out if you attend.
Stay safe and take care. See you next time!
