Monday 21st November & Christmas Break-up Lunch

So, the final Linus Distribution Meeting for 2022 has come and gone and we are all of the same opinion, where has the year gone? That's what happens when you keep yourself busy and productive as the many members and friends of Sunshine Linus do all year round!

Elaine had the last sales table for the year set and up and ready for business with lots of lovely items to be purchased!

Kaye had made these handy little craft storage bags to add to the items for sale.

The Freebie table was as popular as ever with lots of treasures to be found.

Gail brought in a collection of 'breast cancer bags' made by Joyce from the Greenwood Retirement Village. Thank you, Joyce for your donation!

We all had a laugh at Sharon and Leonie's wonderful fashion sense!

The 'Twins' in matching tops

Before Show and Tell began Kaye expressed her appreciation for a 'magic' year and thanked the members for all their efforts, especially the quiet achievers. Without everybody's effort Sunshine Linus wouldn't function of course!

Many of our donated items come from outside the immediate Sunshine Coast region. Kaye showed a selection of 'Tic Tac Toe' bags made by a lady from Caboolture. They came complete with the bottle caps for the game.

There were lots of amazing 'Touchy Feely' books donated this month. Bonnie and Claire having been putting their creative juices to the test making this selection of books with all their interesting 'doodads'. They will be donated to various Aged Care Centers on the coast.

Linda showed this magnificent 'Touchy Feely' table mat that she and Dawn had made.

There were a number of beautiful, knitted and crocheted rugs donated.

More gorgeous quilts were shown including this lovely applique and nine-patch quilt.

Anne made these two pretty quilts from two and a half inch strips and donated blocks.

Lorraine showed this four-patch quilt with beautiful, hand-embroidered squares.

Jill showed two clever quilts. The first made from strips and squares, the second with bright interlocking, batik fabric strips.

After distribution and a quick tidy up and set up, it was time for lunch. The members had provided a magnificent assortment of yummy items to eat. There were bags of delicious chocolates too!

After everyone had eaten their fill, it was time for some fun and games. Kaye and the Committee members had organised a table of gifts for the lucky door prizes.

Leonie's ticket was the first to be drawn!

And there were games and more prizes!

Carole and Glorianne had organised a special version of Bingo: 'Stitching Adventures and Misadventures with Sunshine Linus'.

And then the competition got fierce and competitive with some team games 'Christmas A to Z' and 'Christmas Carol Emoji', with still more prizes up for grabs!

So, a good time was had by all!

A number of members asked Bonnie for her Date Fingers Recipe, so here it is!

Monday 31st October: Distribution Day

This month's meeting was the second last for the year with fifty members stopping in at various stages of the morning to drop off items for donation. It was also great to welcome two visiting speakers.

Leonie and Claire were kept busy checking names off on the attendance roll as the ladies arrived.

It has been a productive month again with members making and donating an amazing range of sewn and knitted/crocheted items, both for sale and donation. Elaine had the sales table looking 'ship-shape'.

Two cute library bags made by Margaret up for sale!

Marilyn had been given a cloth doll to dress. She showed the lovely outfit she had sewn for it and the improvements she had made to the doll's face.

Judith and the doll

Kaye showed the 60 bags she had sewn for Blue Care's Grevilia Garden's at Gympie. They are to be donated to the residents of the Aged Care Facility in response to the flooding they experienced last year. They are color coded for each residential block and fit over the top of the resident's wheelie walkers. The idea is that if they have to be evacuated in a hurry, personal items can be placed in them for a quick exit from the building!

Jenny H showed a clever bag she had made using a cross-stitched panel found on the 'freebie table'.

As they say, 'you are never too old'! These friendly little dolls were made and donated by a 95-year-young friend of Sunshine Linus!

Judith H had also knitted clothing for these cuties using a 1 and 2 ply yarn!

Jan accepts the dolls from Judith on
behalf of the 'baby group'.

As usual the distribution tables were filled with beautiful hand-made items.

Yvonne had made another of her intricate and colorful row quilts.

Lyn and Daphne take a much-needed break
from all that fabric sorting!

Mark works in the emergency relief and long and short-term housing sections of St Vincents in Nambour. He shared his appreciation for the hours spent making the many hand-made items they receive from Sunshine Linus, especially quilts. He said the Sunshine Linus items are the stand-out items and the first to be selected by the people in their care.

Kaye welcomes Mark

Kerry thanked Sunshine Linus members for all of their lovely work which is distributed between four hospitals on the Sunshine Coast including, Gympie, Nambour, Maleny and SHUH. She shared the comfort that many of the items bring to the patients in their care.
