Monday 31st October: Distribution Day

This month's meeting was the second last for the year with fifty members stopping in at various stages of the morning to drop off items for donation. It was also great to welcome two visiting speakers.

Leonie and Claire were kept busy checking names off on the attendance roll as the ladies arrived.

It has been a productive month again with members making and donating an amazing range of sewn and knitted/crocheted items, both for sale and donation. Elaine had the sales table looking 'ship-shape'.

Two cute library bags made by Margaret up for sale!

Marilyn had been given a cloth doll to dress. She showed the lovely outfit she had sewn for it and the improvements she had made to the doll's face.

Kaye showed the 60 bags she had sewn for Blue Care's Grevilia Garden's at Gympie. They are to be donated to the residents of the Aged Care Facility in response to the flooding they experienced last year. They are color coded for each residential block and fit over the top of the resident's wheelie walkers. The idea is that if they have to be evacuated in a hurry, personal items can be placed in them for a quick exit from the building!

Jenny H showed a clever bag she had made using a cross-stitched panel found on the 'freebie table'.

As they say, 'you are never too old'! These friendly little dolls were made and donated by a 95-year-young friend of Sunshine Linus!

Judith H had also knitted clothing for these cuties using a 1 and 2 ply yarn!

Jan accepts the dolls from Judith on
behalf of the 'baby group'.

As usual the distribution tables were filled with beautiful hand-made items.

Barbara showed that she can create items other than quilts with this colorful, knitted rug.

Morning tea is always a treat, and this month was no exception! As well as the regular goodies 'Turtle Care' had a cheesecake delivered to the hall as a thank you for the items, Claire had made them last month.

Lyn and Daphne take a much-needed break
from all that fabric sorting!

Our two visitors this month included Mark from St Vincent's Care and Kerry from Wishlist, SCUH.
Mark works in the emergency relief and long and short-term housing sections of St Vincents in Nambour. He shared his appreciation for the hours spent making the many hand-made items they receive from Sunshine Linus, especially quilts. He said the Sunshine Linus items are the stand-out items and the first to be selected by the people in their care.

Kerry thanked Sunshine Linus members for all of their lovely work which is distributed between four hospitals on the Sunshine Coast including, Gympie, Nambour, Maleny and SHUH. She shared the comfort that many of the items bring to the patients in their care.
