Monday 27th September

Can you believe it is almost the end of September? Where has the year gone? Despite the months seeming to flash by, the members and friends of Sunshine Linus have once again continued to keep themselves busy crafting a variety of wonderful items to be gifted to various groups around the Sunshine Coast and beyond! Of course none of this would happen if it wasn't for our dedicated team of members who work behind the scenes on Distribution Day. Here are a few of them at work:

Thelma, Sharon and Claire at the check-in table.

Kaye measures and cuts the batting while Jenny waits.

Val (and Ted) oversee the sales of tickets for the raffle

Anne sorts the quilts into their correct piles.

Jill preps for Distribution

Of course we would love to meet together as days of old and host our live 'Show and Tell' but it will have to remain digital for the time being.

Annie R arrived with 24 children's 'Super Hero Capes'. What child wouldn't love donning one of these colorful capes!

There were piles of activity bags and lots of goodies to fill them. A big thank you to Lee and Kaye F for volunteering to help Lisa make more activity bags.

The 'Yarners' (knitters and crochet ladies) have been very industrious this past month. Lots of lovely rugs and gorgeous soft toys arrived for distribution. This pretty rug, shawl and grey rug were made by Marie's friend.

Gabrielle's knitting group at Peregian made a bright patchwork rug, two dolls and a fiddle ball.

How cute are these two girls!

Fran's friend Jenny knitted these little guys, they are called 'Loveys'.

Three adorable dogs.

Lots of beautiful quilts arrived for donation including two Jagged X quilts from Kaye's class last Activity Day.

Yvonne's pretty Jagged X quilt.

Glorianne's Jagged X quilt in colors suitable for a man.

Kaye added borders to complete this 'One Block Wonder' quilt.

Judie B has been busy quilting using these two gorgeous quilts to inspire her.

Dorothy made this cute tiger-themed quilt using hexagons found on the 'Freebie table'.

Barbara made an eye-catching blue and white nine patch quilt and a pretty pink and purple quilt.

Daphne's bright batik quilt

Orrawin's clever strip quilt

Claire has been as industrious as ever completing two interactive play quilts. The first quilt is based on the book called 'One Tiny Turtle' and was made for the Sunshine Coast Turtle Care Program. The members travel around schools teaching students about the life cycle of turtles

It has a migration map on the back.

The second quilt is based on the book called 'Rainbow Fish'. It teaches children about sharing as the rainbow fish shares his beautiful scales with all the other fish. It is destined for Banksia Beach State School on Bribie Island.

And the winner of this month's raffle is......

Carole draws the winning tickets.

Rosemary wins the rug!

Pam wins Big Ted!

One other news-worthy item....Linus donated a raffle quilt to the New Life Church in Nambour. They raised over $200 for the Hope India Leprosy School. Congratulations to Peter the winner of the quilt!

Until next time... stay safe, stay well and keep crafting!

Reminder re Next Meeting

Hello Everyone. Just a reminder that the next Sunshine Linus Meeting is scheduled for Monday 27th September.

The format will be the same as last month -

  • Two one hour sessions starting at 9am and 10am with the Distribution team and Committee from 11am onwards.
  • Bring money for a cuppa and the sales table and don't forget to check in using the Check-in QLD app as well as signing in.
  • Masks and social distancing still apply.
  • We still need to manage numbers so please book with Judie B as soon as possible.
If you are inviting a guest to the meeting please ensure that they are booked in with Judie as well.
You will need to provide her with the guest's full name, phone number and email address. This is so we can include them in the numbers and be able to quickly supply their details should contact tracers ever require it. Hopefully that won't ever happen but the virus has popped up in other places that people thought it never would.
Hope to see you there!

Monday 30th August

It was fantastic to see so many members back at Sunshine Linus this month with 52 ladies attending the restricted distribution gathering at various intervals during the morning. Yes, masks were still in place and it was a bit tricky at times working out who was behind the mask but it didn't take long to match the eyes to the correct person!

Can you guess who these two masked bandits are?

Yes, it's Denise and Barbara holding one of the many donated items. This time it was a very smart boy's jumper.

Jan B also donated a selection of gorgeous knitted baby items:

And who could resist these cuties hidden amongst all the lovely teddies?

The 'Baby team' also had a selection of lovely knitted and sewn items to show.

Sunshine Linus had some special visitors this month, Chris and Vernon Fisher from Maroochydore. They are prolific quilters who have just downsized and moved to a smaller house. So what did they do with all their quilts when they downsized? Donated them to Sunshine Linus of course! Chris and Vernon consider it as their way to give back to the community. Chris has found patchwork to be her therapy during treatment for cancer and along the way she taught her husband how to make quilts too!

Vernon's fabulous Hulk quilt.

Another amazing quilt made by Chris and Vernon.

Kaye took time out to show Lorraine and Ros the many items Sunshine Linus members make. Lorraine and Ros live in the same neighborhood as Chris and Vernon and were also interested in seeing and hearing about Sunshine Linus!

Sunshine Linus also received a large donation of colorful children's quilts from a couple of ladies from Warwick, Carolyn Lamb and a friend. Carolyn also donated some knitted rugs and sensory items. Thank you ladies!

Anne C made this clever 'Court House Steps' quilt from a kit found on the 'Freebie table'. Anne managed to make two of these quilts from the one kit!

Dorothy made a pretty 'Breast Cancer' themed quilt which Sunshine Linus hopes to donate to someone currently receiving treatment.

A close up of the fabric.

Dorothy also made this outback themed quilt using a tea-towel for the central block! How ingenious!

Maria showed a bright strippy quilt she had made. This one was a great scrap buster.

As usual Elaine had everything under control and looking gorgeous at the 'sales table'.

One of the many items for sale was this fabulous knitting needle carry-case made by Marion. It even included the needles!

Claire has been keeping herself extra busy during the lock-downs creating and making a number of special request items including this doll that allows a child to cradle the doll between her fingers and elbow.

The Mr Potato Head play-mat is destined for Peachester State School. It is based on the concept 'We are all the same but different'.

The jumbo dice is filled with bean bag beans (making it easy to roll) and is brightly colored. Claire designed it for the students who have visual impairments at Nambour Special School.

The students at Banksia Beach State School will adore interacting with these two Play-mats based on the stories 'The Little Red Hen' and 'The Very Cranky Bear'. Both mats include lots of movable parts to help tell the story.

And then of course it was 'distribution time'.

Reminders:

  • The raffle prizes for this month and next month are a very cuddly Mr Bear (courtesy of Claire) and a snugly rug crocheted by Gabrielle. Be sure to get your tickets!

  • Next month's meeting will be on Monday 27th September

See you then!
