Monday 30th August

It was fantastic to see so many members back at Sunshine Linus this month with 52 ladies attending the restricted distribution gathering at various intervals during the morning. Yes, masks were still in place and it was a bit tricky at times working out who was behind the mask but it didn't take long to match the eyes to the correct person!

Can you guess who these two masked bandits are?

Yes, it's Denise and Barbara holding one of the many donated items. This time it was a very smart boy's jumper.

Jan B also donated a selection of gorgeous knitted baby items:

And who could resist these cuties hidden amongst all the lovely teddies?

The 'Baby team' also had a selection of lovely knitted and sewn items to show.

Sunshine Linus had some special visitors this month, Chris and Vernon Fisher from Maroochydore. They are prolific quilters who have just downsized and moved to a smaller house. So what did they do with all their quilts when they downsized? Donated them to Sunshine Linus of course! Chris and Vernon consider it as their way to give back to the community. Chris has found patchwork to be her therapy during treatment for cancer and along the way she taught her husband how to make quilts too!

Vernon's fabulous Hulk quilt.

Another amazing quilt made by Chris and Vernon.

Kaye took time out to show Lorraine and Ros the many items Sunshine Linus members make. Lorraine and Ros live in the same neighborhood as Chris and Vernon and were also interested in seeing and hearing about Sunshine Linus!

Sunshine Linus also received a large donation of colorful children's quilts from a couple of ladies from Warwick, Carolyn Lamb and a friend. Carolyn also donated some knitted rugs and sensory items. Thank you ladies!

Anne C made this clever 'Court House Steps' quilt from a kit found on the 'Freebie table'. Anne managed to make two of these quilts from the one kit!

Dorothy made a pretty 'Breast Cancer' themed quilt which Sunshine Linus hopes to donate to someone currently receiving treatment.

A close up of the fabric.

Dorothy also made this outback themed quilt using a tea-towel for the central block! How ingenious!

Maria showed a bright strippy quilt she had made. This one was a great scrap buster.

As usual Elaine had everything under control and looking gorgeous at the 'sales table'.

One of the many items for sale was this fabulous knitting needle carry-case made by Marion. It even included the needles!

Claire has been keeping herself extra busy during the lock-downs creating and making a number of special request items including this doll that allows a child to cradle the doll between her fingers and elbow.

The Mr Potato Head play-mat is destined for Peachester State School. It is based on the concept 'We are all the same but different'.

The jumbo dice is filled with bean bag beans (making it easy to roll) and is brightly colored. Claire designed it for the students who have visual impairments at Nambour Special School.

The students at Banksia Beach State School will adore interacting with these two Play-mats based on the stories 'The Little Red Hen' and 'The Very Cranky Bear'. Both mats include lots of movable parts to help tell the story.

And then of course it was 'distribution time'.

Reminders:

  • The raffle prizes for this month and next month are a very cuddly Mr Bear (courtesy of Claire) and a snugly rug crocheted by Gabrielle. Be sure to get your tickets!

  • Next month's meeting will be on Monday 27th September

See you then!
