Monday 29th July

There were 79 attendees at this month’s meeting and it didn’t take long for everyone to settle in to the business of the day.

Ladies from the Yarners team, Felicity, Irene and Beryl, were busy attaching labels to some of the knitted and crocheted items.

As usual, Lyn and Daphne were kept busy sorting the donated bags of fabric.

Val, Lisa and Marlene were collecting items ready to be placed in the children’s activity bags.

Thelma was in the kitchen checking everything was running smoothly ready for morning tea.

The ‘freebie table’ is always popular, with many ladies finding items that can be re-purposed or remade into usable items.

Our guest speaker today was Neil from the Buderim Private Hospital. He spoke about the changes to management at the hospital and NAIDOC week. He thanked Sunshine Linus for the generous donation of Kanyini bears and presented two boxes of Cadbury’s Favourites to be distributed amongst the ladies.

First up for ‘Show and Tell' today was Glorianne with a very pretty ‘quilt as you go’ quilt called ‘Ponies and Pinwheels’. The pony applique was taken from a cushion pattern by Claire Turpin. The quilt included a matching cushion!

Sometimes the items made for Sunshine Linus involve a team effort. This quaint Humpty Dumpty wall hanging was started by Chris and completed by Claire. It will be donated to Nambour Special School.

Joy showed two very cute quilts, quilted by Leslie at Mapleton.

Dorothy showed two gorgeous childrens’ quilts. She uses blocks and panels found on the ‘freebie table’ and adds complimenting blocks and borders to finish the quilts.

Frances showed an eye-catching geometric quilt, the first quilt she has made for Sunshine Linus! She used fabrics collected from the Sunshine Linus boxes. Well done Frances!

Orrawin has been piecing ‘orphan blocks’ found on the ‘freebie table’. She is ingenious in her ability to fit these blocks together to create unique quilts.

Last month Judie gave out some ‘Eye Spy’ quilt kits and asked members to assemble them. They will be sold on Open Day. Judie showed two versions of these charming children’s quilts and also another smaller quilt she had quilted. Judie has also attached a label to these quilts providing instructions on how they are to be laundered.

Carole shows her competed ‘Eye Spy’ quilt top.

The Baby Team showed a sample of some of the items they make including a delightful reversible baby cocoon and a beanie. These items will be sent to Tanzania.

The Sensory Team showed two of their remarkable ‘touchy feely’ books.

The Sewing Team showed an example of the drainage bags they make for hospital patients and a delightful boy’s sweatshirt that was just a tad too small for Neil!

Susan reminded everyone about the new Sunshine Linus labels that are now available to attach to items. They look fantastic!

The Yarners team (otherwise know as the Crocheters & Knitters) are super organised! Susan also showed a copy of their ‘fresh off the press’ newsletter. If you would like to read this newsletter you can find it here or under the tab on the right hand side of the blog page.

A couple of other newsworthy items: some of you may have taken time out to visit the two local craft shows recently. You will be interested to know that Kaye had a number of items on display at the Palmwoods Arts & Craft Group Craftfest and Exhibition including these two delightful quilts!

And Cynthia had this amazing quilt on display a the Caloundra Quilters Quilt Show!
