A massive turn out today, including many new members and the
distribution tables were groaning under
the weight of so many different articles.
Some new and challenging ideas were presented including:
Twist scarves made from knit fabric,
from sheers,and from T shirt jersey cut into thin strips and washed to produce tubular curl.
Hand puppets were demonstrated by Claire,
Fabric threading challenges have been prepared for the activity bags distributed to local Police,
Baby’s beanies with colourful pom poms,
Baby burp cloths which fit snuggly over the shoulder,
and Sensory seats and cheeky toys by Dawn were designed for the younger children.
A soft polar fleece
rug - one layer, joined with overlocking - suitable for MS sufferers was displayed by Kaye.
Knitted and crocheted
goods are on the increase as winter approaches, including several rugs such as these completed by
Carolyn.
During the month, a large number of quilts were delivered to
Scope by Kay F assisted by Doreen and Leonie. This an annual commitment to domestic violence victims on the Sunshine Coast.
Several Aboriginal
themed quilts were presented by Claire who told us the fabric came from the USA,
This wall hanging was made by Dorothy.
Appliqued motifs featured in some quilts
and hand pieced hexagons from the freebie table became a quilt completed by Lyn P.
Animal themes were popular with Barbara,
with Anne,
with Claire,
with Glorianne,
and with Orrawin.
A special order for a horse quilt for a Woombye resident has been completed by Brigette.
Window box effect was part of these 3 quilts - two featuring bright sunflowers
and a men's quilt from Judie B.
Blue was a common coordinating colour used by Orrawin,
and by Barbara, our master of scrappy strips,
as well as in this large quilt of blue and brown squares
Other simple designs featured in small quilts.
and clever use of colour contrast resulted in stunning effects.
Sunshine Linus is privileged to have several professional quilters and intricate quilting such as that below by Dee allows others to concentrate on their specialties.
June marks the 7th birthday of Sunshine Linus, so
a special treat will be the chance to win one of these appliquéd bags prepared
by President Kaye.
