Monday 27th August

There were 76 attendees at this month’s meeting and as usual the hall was buzzing with activity!

We were very fortunate to have Lee the Sharpening Man in attendance. He spent the morning sharpening scissors of all shapes and sizes. Thank you Lee!

The cooler winter weather must have encouraged our ladies to make quilts because there were lots and lots of them donated this month.

Kaye kicked off the Show and Tell with a number of quilts she had quilted. The first was a stunning hexagon quilt made by a lady who has dementia.

The second quilt was a very cute cat themed quilt that Kaye will be taking to the Eumundi Markets.

Another quilt included candle wicking motifs and a backing that had already been quilted.

Kaye’s ‘piece de rĂ©sistance’ was a beautifully cross stitched star quilt.

Liz had fun modelling a ‘fiddly bits’ apron specifically made for a man with its PVC pipes that slot together! The apron was created by a lady from Landsborough.

Judy showed a colourful and quirky ‘Roosters in batik’ quilt and two more bright geometric quilts again incorporating batik fabric.

Barbara has been busy making two very scrappy strip quilts in order to use up some of the smaller pieces of fabric in her stash.

Anne showed two quilts, a striking geometric quilt that had foundation pieced saw-tooth blocks in the centre of each larger block and a fun window box ‘I Spy’ quilt suitable for a child.

Judie has spent the last couple of months quilting a huge number of quilt tops to expand her machine-quilting skills. If you look closely you can see some of her magnificent machine-quilting.

The Crazy Quilters from Caboolture donated several chenille quilts using chenille fabric donated by Patchwork Angel. Joy and Lyn and the other members commented that their sewing rooms would never be the same after the chenille explosions!

The Crazy Quilters also donated two lovely carry bags with embroidered motifs.

Dee has been busy once again quilting quilt tops for Sunshine Linus. Thank you Dee. And thank you to Leslie for attaching the binding!

Joy showed a very pretty girls’ quilt with machine embroidered appliques made by Leslie from Mapleton.

Denise showed a striking red and white floral quilt which was also quilted by Dee.

Glorianne showed a very cute counting quilt she had made using a pile of cut-out Russian dolls found on the ‘freebie table’. It came complete with a bag of ten smaller dolls.

Claire has been extremely busy this last month creating all sorts of wonderful creations. She showed an assortment of adorable weighted toys. Cynthia was happy to model the yellow puppy!

The ‘touchy feely’ wall hanging was a new idea she has been exploring.

Claire also entertained us by telling the story ‘Dear Zoo’. The quilt included 7 flaps that opened to reveal a different animal each time.

Auntie Betty thanked Sunshine Linus for the many items sent to groups in central Queensland. She gave Sunshine Linus a $200 donation from the Reconciliation Group.

A big thank you…
… to Judie B for her hard work and commitment to Sunshine Linus over the years. She is stepping down as Correspondence Secretary. Thank you to Marion who is replacing Judie in this role.

Monday 30th July

Our Sunshine Linus members have been busy once again this past month creating wonderful items to donate to various charities and organizations around the coast and beyond!

Daphne and Melva brought along a selection of colourful blockenspiels that they and their local craft group members had made and donated.

Helen delivered an assortment of adorable knitted teddies and dolls made by Joan from the Hibiscus Retirement Village at Sippy Downs.

Joan also knitted a very cute child’s vest. Thank you Joan!

The ladies from ‘Peregian Crafty Knitters and Crocheters’ group made and donated an assortment of woollen ‘goodies’ ready for the distribution table.

Rosemary showed an amazing king-size crocheted rug that took her five years to complete. There are a total of 225 flowers, each one taking 40 minutes to make!

Val showed a knitted rug she made using squares from the ‘freebie table’.

Beany showed a ‘free-form’ knitted rug made by members of the Pomona Community Centre using various knitted ‘orphan’ blocks donated to the centre.

Cynthia showed a delightful ‘touchy feely’ book also made by Rosemary.

Another donation was a beautifully smocked girl’s dress.

This ‘touchy feely’ mat suitable for a man was made by one of our supporters from Landsborough. It included lots of interesting ‘doodads’ that can be manipulated.

The next photo shows a charming ‘touchy feely’ table cloth. Remember members, if you are making these ‘touchy feely’ items, ensure the ‘doodads’ are well-secured!

There were some stunning quilts this month. Claire showed this purple and green batik quilt.

Joy showed a precision-made ‘Squares on Point’ quilt.

Anne showed a fun ‘Bunny and Tulips’ quilt and another quilt called ‘Birdhouses and Doves’ which is available on the internet as a free pattern by Lynette Anderson Designs.

Glorianne showed this delightful children’s quilt called ‘Windy Hill Farm’. It came complete with a ‘Penny the Pig’ soft toy.

Two very colourful strip quilts were also among the quilts donated. Daphne made the quilt with the green border.

Lee used blocks from the ‘freebie table’ to make this bright and quirky ‘Tulips Quilt’.

Claire entertained us again with her amazing ‘Story Book’ quilts made for the students at Currimundi Special School. The first quilt is based on the popular children’s story Wombat Stew and the second quilt is based on the story Where is the Green Sheep?

Kaye showed a selection of the fleecy rugs made on Action Day. These rugs are very light-weight and suitable for people with Multiple Sclerosis. All the ladies who contributed to Action Day were given a ‘Gift of Gratitude’ this month.

Thank you to Betty’s friends Judith and Tom, who traveled all the way from NSW to donate and deliver a Happy Jack quilting frame and sewing machine to Sunshine Linus. Sue has offered to accept the frame and machine and start using it to quilt for Sunshine Linus. No pressure Sue!

One final and important piece of news: Lee Evans, will be attending our next meeting August 27th from 9am to sharpen scissors. Cash only! Cost $10 large scissors, $5 small scissors. Please remember to name/identify your scissors to avoid any confusion!

Happy stitching everyone!
