Monday 27th August

There were 76 attendees at this month’s meeting and as usual the hall was buzzing with activity!

We were very fortunate to have Lee the Sharpening Man in attendance. He spent the morning sharpening scissors of all shapes and sizes. Thank you Lee!

The cooler winter weather must have encouraged our ladies to make quilts because there were lots and lots of them donated this month.

Kaye kicked off the Show and Tell with a number of quilts she had quilted. The first was a stunning hexagon quilt made by a lady who has dementia.

The second quilt was a very cute cat themed quilt that Kaye will be taking to the Eumundi Markets.

Another quilt included candle wicking motifs and a backing that had already been quilted.

Kaye’s ‘piece de rĂ©sistance’ was a beautifully cross stitched star quilt.

Liz had fun modelling a ‘fiddly bits’ apron specifically made for a man with its PVC pipes that slot together! The apron was created by a lady from Landsborough.

Judy showed a colourful and quirky ‘Roosters in batik’ quilt and two more bright geometric quilts again incorporating batik fabric.

Barbara has been busy making two very scrappy strip quilts in order to use up some of the smaller pieces of fabric in her stash.

Anne showed two quilts, a striking geometric quilt that had foundation pieced saw-tooth blocks in the centre of each larger block and a fun window box ‘I Spy’ quilt suitable for a child.

Judie has spent the last couple of months quilting a huge number of quilt tops to expand her machine-quilting skills. If you look closely you can see some of her magnificent machine-quilting.

The Crazy Quilters from Caboolture donated several chenille quilts using chenille fabric donated by Patchwork Angel. Joy and Lyn and the other members commented that their sewing rooms would never be the same after the chenille explosions!

The Crazy Quilters also donated two lovely carry bags with embroidered motifs.

Dee has been busy once again quilting quilt tops for Sunshine Linus. Thank you Dee. And thank you to Leslie for attaching the binding!

Joy showed a very pretty girls’ quilt with machine embroidered appliques made by Leslie from Mapleton.

Denise showed a striking red and white floral quilt which was also quilted by Dee.

Glorianne showed a very cute counting quilt she had made using a pile of cut-out Russian dolls found on the ‘freebie table’. It came complete with a bag of ten smaller dolls.

Claire has been extremely busy this last month creating all sorts of wonderful creations. She showed an assortment of adorable weighted toys. Cynthia was happy to model the yellow puppy!

The ‘touchy feely’ wall hanging was a new idea she has been exploring.

Claire also entertained us by telling the story ‘Dear Zoo’. The quilt included 7 flaps that opened to reveal a different animal each time.

Auntie Betty thanked Sunshine Linus for the many items sent to groups in central Queensland. She gave Sunshine Linus a $200 donation from the Reconciliation Group.

A big thank you…
… to Judie B for her hard work and commitment to Sunshine Linus over the years. She is stepping down as Correspondence Secretary. Thank you to Marion who is replacing Judie in this role.

A couple of reminders:
  • The next Action Day is on October 15th. Lyn P will be showing us how to make a blockenspiel. We will also spend some time packing Christmas and Activity bags.
  • Open Day next year is on Saturday 17th August. If you wish to help please contact Susan.
  • Start making items to sell on the sales table for Open Day 2019.

Some Requests for:
  • Pieced backings for quilts (single bed and double bed sizes)
  • Items to fill toiletry bags (toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, soap, shower caps etc.)

And finally the recipients of the ‘Gifts of Gratitude‘ this month were Claire, Marion, Jan, Dee and Carole.  Thank you ladies for everything you do for Sunshine Linus!
