May 2026

Sunshine Linus meetings are always filled with friendship, and a strong sense of community πŸ’›πŸ§΅ This month, we welcomed new members who travelled all the way from Brisbane πŸ˜ŠπŸ’›

One of the highlights of the meeting is always the bustling Sales Table πŸ›️✨ filled with beautifully handmade crafts, gifts, quilts, toys, and seasonal items. The table is always well supported, and there is often something special that catches everyone’s eye.
Just some of the items available.

Plants
Produce and more ....

Another popular feature of the meeting is the much-loved Freebie Table 🧢✂️

Donated fabrics, wool, patterns, books and craft supplies give others the opportunity, to begin new projects or complete quilts and items for distribution πŸ§΅πŸ’›

Many beautiful creations begin with materials found on the Freebie Table ✨

Morning tea ☕🍰 provides a chance for everyone to relax, catch up with friends, share ideas, and admire each other’s latest projects before the important work begins.

Thank you, Ute.

We were delighted to welcome a special guest speaker at this month’s meeting. Theo is the Chaplain at Buderim Private Hospital πŸ˜ŠπŸ’›

Theo
The Kanyini Bears,
ready to head out into the community.

Theo helps coordinate the giveaway of the beautiful Kanyini Bears knitted by Sunshine Linus for First Nations people at events including NAIDOC Week, National Reconciliation Week and Closing the Gap events 🧸✨

He shared just how popular the bears have become, especially with adolescent boys! πŸ’› The demand is so high that special systems have been introduced to help share the bears across the community, including set giveaway times and providing bears to teachers and community leaders for distribution. Even then, people are still lining up to receive one 😊

Theo also reminded us how important it is that the story of the Kanyini Bears goes with each bear given away πŸ–€πŸ’›❤️

A big thank you to The Yarners and everyone who continues to lovingly create these very special bears each month following the official pattern 🧢🧸✨

The bears are also lovingly gifted to newborn babies, helping welcome them into the world with comfort and care πŸ‘ΆπŸ§ΈπŸ’›

Check the blog for the pattern.

SHOW AND TELL

The Show and Tell section of the meeting is always a wonderful opportunity for members to share completed items 😊🧡✨ These beautiful creations not only celebrate the hard work of our members, but also inspire others to start new projects of their own πŸ’›

In June, the blog will be highlighting the amazing Sewing Team 😊πŸͺ‘πŸ’› You may be surprised by just how many different items are created and distributed each month to local hospitals, schools  and aged care facilities πŸ₯✨

Claire created a beautiful story quilt for Palmview Special School πŸ“–πŸ§΅πŸ’› The quilt retells the story of Wombat Stew by Marcia Vaughan and allows children with diverse needs to engage with the story at a level that suits their individual needs 😊✨
