The members and friends of Sunshine Linus celebrated 12 years of creative activity in service to the community this month and Sunshine Linus' President Kaye made a delicious cake to celebrate the occasion. 

It was great to see so many members in attendance and of course there was opportunity to catch up with friends, drop off donations and replenish supplies.

There were also plenty of bargains to be found on the sales table. Thank you to all who donate items for sale.

Narelle from the Women's Shed in Toowoomba arrived with boxes of donated items including children's clothing, turbans, mittens, scarves, toweling pillow cases, rugs and beanies. Thank you to the members of this group for their generous donation.

Somehow during the industrious activity of the morning Jenny found time to sit and sew labels onto a number of the donated quilts.

Leonie also kept herself busy tagging the donated clothing.

Betty from Beerwah donated this collection of adorable soft toys.

Of course with the cooler months upon us there are lots of requests for rugs and beanies.

 

The 'tactile /touchy feely' items are always in high demand by both hospitals and aged care facilities for patients and residents with dementia.

Some very colorful seat-belt port protectors. They are for chemo patients who have a chemo port fitted. They are designed to prevent the seat belt from catching the port. Sunshine Linus donate them to various hospitals with cancer patients.

During the formal part of the meeting Judie B (one of the founding members) thanked Kaye and all the members of Sunshine Linus for their service and commitment, especially the many 'quiet achievers'.

Kaye had also organised a selection of lucky door prizes to celebrate the occasion.

And the lucky winners were: Val, Jenny, Gail, Claire, Rosemary, Jenny D, Glorianne, Orrawin, Irene and Fran!

And then it was time for 'Show and Tell'.

Fran grabbed our attention with these very clever shrugs which can be worn as a shawl or shrug.

Fran also showed some delightful characters called 'Lovies'. She purchases the monkeys from K-Mart and then crochets the rug to a hairband which then forms the dress on the doll.

Linda showed this assortment of delightful sea creatures made from a panel given to her by Kaye.

Claire showed an amazing floor quilt and characters based on the story "The Hare and the Tortoise'. The lucky recipients are the children of Currimundi Special School.

And once again there was an abundance of quilts ready for those cold nights. Daphne showed a lovely indigenous themed quilt she had made.

Annie had an eye-catching strip quilt to show.

Barbara showed how she had used some of the donated applique hearts on one of many smaller baby quilts that are to be donated to the Remote Area Nurses to distribute to new mums.

 

Barbara also showed another clever strip quilt made using  a collection of  donated, embroidered blocks.

Judie B had a collection of very cute baby quilts to show. The panels were kindly donated by Bronwyn.

Anne showed a fun and funky jelly roll quilt.

Glorianne showed a 'drunkards path' quilt made using a special 'curve-master' sewing machine foot that allows one to sew the curves without pinning.

Faye showed two bright and fun quilts made by the ladies in her craft group.

Beanie showed one of the raffle quilts she is taking to Pomona Community De-stash Day as a raffle prize.

Reminders:

• The next meeting will be an Activity Day on July 11th beginning at 9am.Barbara is organising ways for us to use some of the many orphan blocks that are donated.
• The 'testing and tagging' of sewing machines will be done during this meeting but you must have contacted Marion to be on the list.
• Start making items for sale at the Open Day next year.
