Something New:

If you take a look on the right hand side of this Blog post you will see that a new page has been added titled 'President's Monthly Update'. Each month a new update will be added for your information regarding what has been happening at Sunshine Linus Inc.

Show and Tell began with Gabrielle showing a selection of adorable baby beanies she had knitted for babies in Tanzania.

The ‘Yarners’ (new name for our knitting and crochet ladies) have been busy this past month making a selection of delightful items including this cute bunny and pairs of fingerless gloves.

Julie showed two bright, cotton beanies she made for cancer patients and a lovely shawl to donate to an aged care facility.

Beanie showed two colourful crochet rugs and a ‘conversational rug’ with tactile objects attached.

Jenny showed a rather quirky flower ball. The link to the instructions can be found in the ‘Patterns’ tab on the right hand side of this Blog page.

Orrawin showed two charming quilts that incorporated both applique and piecing techniques.

Liz has kept herself busy piecing small pieces of fabric! She presented two brightly coloured quilts. The second quilt was made from pocket-scraps and had polar fleece on the back.

Laurel from the Bribie Island Quilters donated a pretty ‘Sunbonnet Sue’ quilt suitable for a girl.

The Bribie Island Quilters also donated several other gorgeous quilts including a Margaret Rolfe quilt called ‘Bears in the Woods’

Lyn continues to attach bindings to the many quilts that are made by other people. Thank you Lyn! She showed this striking ‘Sturt Desert Pea’ quilt made and quilted by Kaye.

Another quilt made by Kaye had a distinct pansy theme and a third quilt quilted by Kaye would be very suitable for a man with its geometric design.

Kaye also managed to find time to assemble these flower blocks into a beautiful quilt top and piece together two more quilts from left over fabric scraps from other quilts.

Joy showed two cute children’s quilts made by a lady in Mapleton. The backs were just as quaint as the fronts!

It was lovely to welcome Anne back with us. She showed five beautiful quilts she has made in her absence.

Judy showed three eye-catching quilts foundation-pieced by Jan from Chinchilla. Judy has embellished the quilts with some spectacular quilting.

Cynthia and Claire have been getting very creative. They collaborated to make this interactive ‘hard and soft’ themed wall-hanging for the students at Nambour Special School.

Claire made a quilt based on the book ‘Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons. With its removable buttons and numbers it teaches the concept of subtraction.

She also made a second quilt based on the story ‘The Gruffalo’. It is sure to keep the students engaged with its removable parts and hidden creatures!

One final item made by Claire were these colourful cheer-leader ruffles. They attach around the wrist for children who have difficulty grasping objects.

One more item to mention.....Last month Susan made thirty bright and cheerful pillow cases for the children's ward at Sunshine Coast University Hospital! They look gorgeous.

Don’t forget to come along and join us for Activity Day on 15th April! We will be making a number of sewn items including these quirky playing card holders used by residents in Aged Care Centres around the Sunshine Coast.

Remember Open Day is approaching fast on the 17th August, so get busy creating everyone!
