Monday 19th April

This month was the Annual General Meeting and a big thank you to Lyn and Barb for volunteering their time to count and collate the ballot votes.

So the votes have now been counted and Sunshine Linus new Executive are:

President: Kaye Nightingale

Vice President: Sharon Hanson

Secretary: Marion Gooding

Treasurer: Claire Taylforth

The sales table was brimming with items this month and Marie and Elaine were set up ready to receive donations for the items.

 

 

 

Claire had made the clothes and accessories for a whole bag of irresistible, little, premade teddies for the sales table.

Marie couldn't resist securing this handsome fellow. She plans to gift him to her daughter.

This lovely craft bag (with lots of handy pockets) is the raffle prize for April/May, so there will still be opportunity to purchase tickets at the next meeting.

 

The 'Freebie table' was also brimming with lots of goodies as members hunted for treasure. 

 

Margaret managed to make a huge number of items this month including these cuties and 17 gorgeous activity bags!

Claire has been trialing a new pattern for Mr Fox.The two bunnies and Mr Fox, along with the two dogs made by Jenny D are destined for the 4FW ward at Nambour hospital where they will be enjoyed by the stroke and dementia patients.

 

Another bag of  'Think, Feel, Do' therapy bears arrived. They will be donated to Anglicare to be gifted to children in foster care.

 

There were lots and lots of amazing 'touchy feely' items donated this month. Well done you clever ladies!

Irene enjoys making items for the gentlemen. She crocheted these two khaki shawls that will suit just fine!

Anne found the pattern for this fun, spotty children's quilt at the Project Linus website.

Glorianne finally finished this cute version of the 'This Little Piggy' quilt.

RETREAT 2021

Kaye is now taking names for the Linus retreat that is planned for Monday 29th November - Thursday 2nd December.

 

Venue: The House of Happiness 

Location: Bribie Island 

Accommodation: Cabins which sleep 4 people. A large studio area for sewing and crafting. Large outdoor areas with access to beach. Shared bathroom facilities. Bring your own sheets, towels, pillows Cost: $80 pp for a 4 day stay. Self catering.

• Our next meeting will be an Activity Day on Monday 17th May. Barbara M will be overseeing the making of 'touchy feely' mats and cubes and there will also be the opportunity to make bags.

Monday 29th March

Firstly a few reminders this month:

• We will be meeting a week earlier in April on Monday 19th due to the 26th being the public holiday following Anzac Day
• The AGM will be held on Monday April 19th so remember to download and complete the voting form. Marion emailed this form out to everyone but it can also be found here: Voting Form

Monday's meeting was as busy as ever for the organizing and set-up team with an abundance of beautifully hand-crafted items being donated to Sunshine Linus to distribute to those in need on the Sunshine Coast. 

The freebie table was also brimming with all sorts of goodies.

Members were once again welcomed by a cheery duo who knew how to keep socially distanced!

This month there was a sales table containing items made and donated by members. Elaine and Val were happy to take charge of this task.

Sharon showed she was an expert at multi-tasking as she juggled a number of roles including helping to measure and cut the wadding for the quilters.

The quilt that was kindly made and donated by Chris F from Thargoona was raffled and drawn.

And the winner was.......Denise! Congratulations Denise!

Margaret has been keeping herself busy making these colorful characters:

Margaret also managed to make two delightful children's bags using blocks she found on the 'freebie table'.

 

Jenny D has been experimenting with her crochet using very fluffy yarn. She created these two handsome fellows who are headed for the 4FW ward at Nambour Hospital!

Linda P arrived with an intriguing 'touchy feely' book that had all manner of 'doodads' and secret, hidden items!

Gabrielle arrived with a wonderful collection of crocheted coat hangers and lovely soaps for the Coolum Care Group. They will be sending out Mother's Day packs to women out in western Queensland.

The Peregian Knitters and Crochet group donated this colorful rug that has been crocheted from corner to corner.

The Baby group were given a box of 50 'Fish'n chips' tops from the Mapleton Craft Group. They derive their name from the paper that some new born babies are wrapped in in countries like Tanzania. Aren't they adorable?

Claire made these 'Think-Feel-Do' bears for Anglicare for fostering and kinship care. They are made from sensory fabrics and have patches to help a child understand and communicate their story through thinking about their words, feelings and actions. They are decorated with patches on their head for thinking, heart for feeling and hands for doing.

Claire also made a huge 65 cm dice which is going to help the students at the Nambour Special School who have a visual impairment. Won't this be fun to roll?

Once again there was an assortment of lovely quilts made and donated by members and friends. Lou R proudly shows her colorful 'four patch square in a square quilt'. Blue and yellow always work well together!

Anne C showed a clever log cabin quilt she had made from an assortment of cream and brown fabric scraps.

Annie donated this striking and very modern scrap quilt. Each of the colored strips is made from a chain of fabric scraps.

Dorothy made this cute child's quilt using a panel from the 'freebie table'. She added in extra blocks to add color and fun.

Orrawin always enjoys a challenge. She found a set of navy triangles on the 'freebie table' and then made strip sets to create the complimentary triangles.

There were many more gorgeous quilts made by Sunshine Linus members and friends. A big thank you to Sue V for binding many of these quilts!
