February 23, 2015 meeting

Yesterday we had a visit from three students from Nambour Special School.  Along with their teachers and principal they wanted to say thank you for the book quilts we have donated to their school.  These quilts are one of the teaching resources used in a "Book Box" to complement the student's favourite stories.  The students also received a new quilt for the book "Mr McGee and the Biting Flea".

With over 60 people at the meeting, Show and Tell brought out a wide variety of creations.  Here are some of the items that will be distributed to our community.

One of the most popular items we make are touchy feely quilts for dementia patients and people with autism.  Over time these have been made in all manner of sizes.  Now, Barb M has created a touchy feely muff which forms a tube using velcro.  Each side is different so there are plenty of distracting objects.

Kaye's 90 year old friend did the cutting for this quilt

Recently, Kaye was the guest speaker at Kawana Quilters.  After telling them all about Sunshine Linus she gave a quilting demonstration.  In return, Kaye received a number of donated quilts.

Joy had me fooled by these two quilts.  From a distance it looks like applique but she has made great use of fabric panels.  Very deceptive!

Jan B has gone bright pink

The Claire B and Jenny quilting and cutting team have been hard at work again.  Two underwater wonders and a sporting quilt will make some boys very happy.

Kaye N has been clearing the cupboard this month.  The purple creation used up bits left from making a quilt for a relative.  Have a look at how she used fleece to make a quilt!

After discussions with the Buderim Private Hospital, Judith made a pattern for a stillborn pod.  It is made from a lovely soft fleece.  It will provide some comfort to parents dealing with the stillbirth of a child.

Thanks to cyclone Marcia, last week was very wet on the Sunshine Coast. Events were cancelled and we were asked to avoid all unnecessary travel. Obviously, for Sunshine Linus members that means we can sew, knit and create. Here Liz K shows what wet days a lead to.

Maggie donated the Cooran mystery quilt that is the result of many people's creativity.

If you like the look of this quilt then you had better buy some raffle tickets at the Sunshine Linus Open Day which will be held on August 22.  Thanks Sandra for making our first prize.

The next Sunshine Linus meeting is on Monday 30 March.  Just a reminder for members, there is a workshop on Monday 16 March.
