July Action Day

Action Day this month was all about fleecy fabric! There had been a request for light-weight blankets for patients with Multiple Sclerosis. Kaye had acquired several bags of fleecy remnants from years of sewing for her family. The plan was to cut the fleece into 6 inch strips and sew these into blankets.

Sharon, Sue and Kaye preparing their plan of attack!

Jennifer and Carole at work on their over-lockers piecing the strips of fleecy fabric.

Chris decided to use an ingenious technique that involved no sewing! It involved placing two squares of fleecy on top of one another (WST) and cutting into the edge of the fleecy approximately 3-4 inches every half inch. The cut strips were then double-knotted to create a fringe effect!

Now you might think the next photo shows what we spent most of the morning doing……..but not so! These Action Days provide a wonderful opportunity not only to create items to be donated but time to socialize, ask questions and get to know one another better. In fact one member whose name begins with ‘T’ spent most of the morning socializing! (Actually as we know, and so often is the case… she was also doing a number of jobs behind the scene). So taking time to stop for morning tea was a very important part of the morning’s proceedings.

A big thank you to Sue, Gail and Robina, who spent the morning cutting the strips for the blankets!

We produced a total of 13 blankets during the morning! Sharon displays one of her ‘almost finished blankets’.

So if you are looking for the opportunity to have some laughs, make new friends, catch up with old friends and produce beautiful items to be donated to various groups on the Sunshine Coast and surrounding regions, I would encourage you to join us on the next Action Day October 15th. Remember to mark the date in your diaries!

Our next monthly meeting is on Monday July 30th. See you there!
